Today I had an annoying attack on my Cisco 851W router. Some (likely) compromised computer in Laos was trying to bruteforce my SSH access wich I have open to the Internet for monitoring purposes. Recently I purchased a Sangean ATS-505 shortwave receiver. I had some money to spend and I figured I needed a portable receiver for the summer to monitor shortwave transmissions, especially amateur radio activity. That is also the reason why this review is geared towards SWL’s and radio amateurs.
I bought the receiver in an electronics shop in the center of the town where I live, Utrecht. It cost me about 90 euro’s. I think that is an acceptable price considering this receiver has full shortwave coverage and can receive SSB transmissions.
A couple of days ago the Cisco 851w router I ordered was delivered. I purchased this device because my old wireless router, a Netgear WGR614v6 was having a hard time with the many NAT entries caused by the increased amount of (wireless) users. Zapping random channels on a friday night. Tuned to a German television channel to find out Goodbye Lenin is playing. I notice that while my written understanding of German is fine, it is quite hard to follow the movie without subtitles. Still, coming across this movie remembers me that there are a lot of decent German movies around. So that’s why I have written this post, to suggest some fine German movies.
